About the Uganda Police Force

The Uganda Police Force is the national police force of Uganda. The head of the force is called the Inspector General of Police (IGP).

The mandate of the Uganda Police Force, as provided in the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda, and Uganda Police Force Act Cap 303, is the protection of life and property, prevention and detection of crime, keeping law and order, and maintenance of overall Security and Public Safety in Uganda.

Minimum Requirements for Recruitment

  • Must be between 18-25 Years
  • Must be a Ugandan citizen with a valid National ID/ Confirmation of Information on the Register letter from NIRA.
  • Must have no criminal record.
  • Should be ready to undertake the requisite Police Basic Training.
  • Should be physically and medically fit
  • Should be ready to work for long hours and at times under difficult conditions.
  • Should be ready to work in any part of the country
  • Should possess good communication skills.
  • Must not be a serving or former officer in other Forces.

Required Level of Education

Candidates must possess a UCE certificate or its equivalent:

  • At least four (4) credits, including either English or Mathematics and must have at least a pass in the other subject (for the traditional grading system)
  • At least four (4) ‘C’s, including either English or Mathematics, and must have at least a ‘D’ grade in the other subject (for those graded under the competency-based System).

  • Enforce law and order
  • Protect life and property
  • Preserve law and order
  • Prevent and detect crime
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Inspector General of Police.
NOTE:
  • Impersonation or presentation of forged documents shall lead to arrest and prosecution in courts of law.
  • Applicants who conceal or provide false information shall be disqualified.
  • Appointment in the Uganda Police Force shall be after completion of the Police Basic Training.
  • Female candidates are encouraged to apply.
  • Possession of a valid driving permit will be an added advantage
  • Those who possess higher academic qualifications should not apply.
  • All stages of the recruitment process are completely free of charge.
  • Applicants should refrain from paying any money to anyone for any services during the recruitment process.
