About Namibian Police Force

The Namibian Police Force was established by the Act of Parliament and resorts under the Ministry of Safety and Security. It is headed by the Inspector General who is appointed by the President of the Republic of Namibia in terms of Article 32(4)(c)(bb) of the Namibian Constitution.

The Force consists of officers and non-officers appointed under the Police Act by the Inspector General of the Namibian Police Force and includes reservists while serving in the Force and any temporary and auxiliary members.

Namibian Police Force Recruitment Requirements

An eligible candidate must:

  • Be in possession of an authentic Grade 12 NSSCO/H or Grade 11 Certificate (New Curriculum) School Certificate with twenty-five (25) points or higher from six (6) subjects, including English with an “E” symbol or higher;
  • Be a Namibian citizen;
  • Be between 18 and 35 years old;
  • Furnish proof of his or her age by means of a certified copy of the Namibian Identity Document (ID);
  • Be free from mental or physical defects, disease, or infirmity which will probably interfere with the proper execution of police duties;
  • Be willing to submit himself or herself to a complete medical checkup, which also includes a physical examination;
  • Be willing to undergo a pregnancy test, in case of female applicants;
  • Allow his or her fingerprints to be taken to determine previous convictions;
  • Not have been convicted of any offense or have a pending case under Schedule 1 and must have a good character;
  • Be prepared to take the declaration of accession to office, as contained in Schedule A of the Police Regulations;
  • Have good communication skills and good command of the official language;
  • Be prepared to undergo police training;
  • Be prepared to be deployed anywhere, even in remote areas away from home or place of origin;
  • Be prepared to undergo written and physical tests;
  • Heavy Duty (C1, CE) driver’s license will serve as an advantage.

Added Advantages

  • Priority will be given to those with: three (3) years or higher tertiary qualifications in Criminal Justice (Policing), Banking Qualifications specialized in Money Laundering, Accounting, and Auditing, Financial Management;
  • Candidates with a three (3) years Bachelor of Computer Science majoring in Cyber Security, Information Security, and Digital Forensics are encouraged to apply;
  • Candidates with three (3) years or higher tertiary qualifications in Public Management/Public Policy from a recognized institution are encouraged to apply;
  • Candidates with an Advanced Criminal Investigations certificate (Former -Detectives) with no criminal records and not older than fifty (50) years of age;
  • Candidates with three (3) a year Bachelor of Art/Honors Degree (Social Work) or equivalent qualifications from a recognized Institution coupled with relevant experience are encouraged to apply provided that they provide valid proof of registration with the Social Worker and Psychology Council of Namibia;
  • Candidates with skills in Brass Band/live Band should have proven skills in the following Saxophonist, percussionist, clarinet player, lead guitarist, lead singer, and professional dancer with a passion for music. Ability to play more than one instrument or role (multi-talented), possession of musical qualifications;
  • Candidates with talents in various sports codes are encouraged to apply. Provided that they meet the minimum advert requirements.

General Duties And Responsibilities

The incumbents will be responsible for the:

  • Maintenance of law and order;
  • Preservation of the internal security of Namibia;
  • Investigation of any offense of alleged offense;
  • Prevention of crime and;
  • Protection of life and property.
