Call for Applications: MPIL Journalist in Residence Fellowship 2024
The Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law invites applications for its MPIL Journalist in Residence Fellowship 2024, offering the opportunity to engage with an international academic community and to gain deeper insights into fundamental questions and current problems of international law, European Union law, and public law, without the high pressure of daily deadlines on a freely chosen project.
At the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law, scholars pursue research relating to basic issues and current developments in the areas of public international law, European Union law, and the constitutional and administrative law of individual states, together with numerous visiting scholars from all over the world. In its fields, our library is the largest in Europe and one of the most comprehensive in the world.
The Fellowship enables journalists with several years of experience to spend three months in 2024 at the Institute. The time and duration of the stay (between March and November 2024) will be agreed upon individually. MPIL Journalists in Residence are free to pursue their own research.
They are encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity to exchange ideas with MPIL researchers and to participate in their various work and discussion formats. The Fellowship is geared towards freelance and staff journalists from all media (print, online, radio, television) who report and write regularly on legal and constitutional topics, or topics from politics, the economy, and research.
Benefits
- A monthly research grant of up to €3,500, based on the fellow’s qualifications and experience, is offered for the duration of the stay.
- The Institute provides desk space and access to all research resources of the Institute’s library.
Eligibility
- Open to freelance and staff journalists from all media (print, online, radio, television) who report and write regularly on legal and constitutional topics, or topics from politics, the economy and research-related topics.
- Applicants come from all over the world.
How To Apply
Applicants must upload one PDF file with their application in English or German, including:
- A brief portrait of your own journalistic work
- A curriculum vitae
- Three work samples with relevance to the research topics of the institute
- A short outline of your proposed research planned for your stay at the Institute (max. 2000 characters)
- Details of your preferred dates (between March and November 2023) and intended duration of stay.
