Every student always believes in a good grade, but what happens when you can’t meet up to the result you wanted? At this point, your plans and ambition is been shattered. You will be asking yourself numerous questions like; What happen to the course I plan to study, Can I be accepted in any institution to study this course, Can I wait till the next admission form is out, Should I do a change of course, etc.

Well, at that point your brain and your mind will be saying a lot of things which if you are not careful you will mislead yourself. So, it is better to think twice before taking any further steps to avoid regret in the future.

In this article, you will be given detailed information, if it is possible to study Mass Communication with D7, E8, or F9 in Literature.

Can I Study Mass Communication with D7, E8, or F9 in Literature?

Numerous students have been asking this same question annually because they seem to be confused when it comes to subject counseling. Before you even write your junior WAEC Examination you have a plan toward your course of study whether you want to be a Science, Art, or Commercial student.

When it comes to SCIENCES there is a core subject which you can’t escape which are; Mathematics, English Language, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, While ART students can’t escape this core subject as well; Mathematics, Literature in English, English Language, Government and History and for COMMERCIAL students this core subject keeps you rolling; Mathematics, Literature in English, English Language, Economics and Financial Accounting. So, those listed core subject above keeps you going and as a student on the above department listed, you must at least have a credit in those subject.

Now let’s answer the “Can I Study Mass Communication with D7, E8, or F9 in Literature?” With Literature being a core subject for the Art department, you should know at this point that it is possible to study Mass communication with D7, E8, or F9 in Literature because some universities and Polytechnics offer Mass Communication Admission with D7, E8, or F9 in Literature-in-English.

First, note that where a university doesn’t require Literature, you still have to attempt it in O’level, to say the least. It means you can be considered for admission even if you don’t have credit for it.

Universities That Offer Mass Communication Admission With D7, E8 or F9 in Literature-in-English

1. Edo University, Iyamho, Edo State (EUI)

EUI requires five (5) credit passes at O’level or its equivalent in English Language, Mathematics, and any other three (3) Social Science subjects at not more than two (2) sittings.

In other words, the two compulsory SSCE subjects for Mass Communication at Edo State University are English and Maths. Then, you have to add ANY other three art or social science subjects. The other three subjects may come from CRS, IRS, Yoruba, Government, Civic Education, economics, Commerce, Account.

Once you have 3 from the listed subjects; consider EUI for your Mass communication admission.

2. Lead City University, Ibadan, Oyo State

LCITY requires O’Level credit passes at SSC or its equivalent in English Language and any other four (4) Art or Social Science subjects.

Lead City University wants ANY other four subjects from art or commercial subjects. English is compulsory; then, add any 4 of CRS, IRS, Yoruba, Government, Civic Education, economics, Commerce, Account, Geography, etc.

3. Rivers State University, Port Harcourt, Rivers State

RSUST requires O’Level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Economics, and any other two (2) subjects.

This university will accept D7, E8, or F9 in Literature if you can produce English, Maths, and Economics plus two other subjects from art, commercial, or science.

4. Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (ABU)

ABU requires five (5) O’Level credit passes in English Language, Economics/Commerce, Government/History, Literature in English/Christian Religious Studies/Islamic Studies, and any Nigerian Language with at least O Level pass in Mathematics.

With the explanation above, ABU will accept CRS or IRS in place of Literature. In other words, with your Credit pass in CRS/IRS, the university may consider you with D7, E8, or F9 in Literature.

5. Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko (AAUA)

The university accepts Five credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, and three other subjects from Social Science/Arts.

With this, the university requires you to write Literature-in-English but passing it is not compulsory. You’ll still be considered for admission with D7, E8, or F9.

Polytechnics That Offer Mass Communication Admission With D7, E8 or F9 in Literature-in-English

1. Yaba College of Technology, Lagos (YABATECH)

YABATECH requires Five (5) credit passes in Mathematics, English Language, and any other three (3) from the following Government, Economics/Commerce, History, Literature in English, Yoruba, Hausa, Igbo, Fine Art, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Principles of Accounting. It also requires Mathematics, Literature in English, and Government or History as UTME subjects.

This means that the polytechnic only compulsory Maths and English for Mass Communication. The other three O’level credit may come from any of the other subjects listed above.

2. The Polytechnic Ibadan, Oyo State

IBADAN POLY requires three (3) other subjects from Geography, Yoruba, History, Government, IRS/CRS, and any Physical Science subject.

This means that the polytechnic only compulsory Maths and English for Mass Communication. The other three O’level credit may come from any of the above-listed subjects.

3. Federal Polytechnic Nekede

FEDPONEK or FPON requires an O’Level credit pass in one (1) Basic Science subject, and any two (2) from Government, Literature in English, Geography, Commerce, Economics, Igbo, CRS, Fine Arts, History, Information Communication Technology.

In other words, you must produce Maths, English, and one of Agric or Biology. Then, add two subjects from Government, Literature in English, Geography, Commerce, Economics, Igbo, CRS, Fine Arts, History, and ICT.

4. Ogun Polytechnic, Ipokia (Moshood Abiola Polytechnic – MAPOLY)

OGUN-POLY accepts O’Level’s pass in Literature in English. This means, with D7 or E8 but not F9, you can be offered admission by the polytechnic.

5. Fidei Polytechnic, Gboko, Benue State

FIDEIPOLY requires five (5) O’Level credit passes at not more than two sittings in the following subjects English Language, Mathematics, and any three (3) from Literature in English, Economics, Commerce, Geography, Government, CRS, Fine Arts, History, and Information Communication Technology.

This implies that the polytechnic accepts any Economics, Commerce, Geography, Government, CRS, Fine Arts, History, and ICT in place of Literature. But English and Mathematics are compulsory.

6. Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, Ogun State

ILARO POLY requires O’level credit passes in the English Language (not Literature in English), Mathematics, and any three subjects from the following: History, Economics/Commerce, Literature in English, Fine Art, Government, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Basic Electricity, Geography, Typewriting, Principles of Accounts, Photography, Computer Science, Music, Nigerian and International Language, Printing and Craft Practice, Radio/ Television and Electronics Works, Shorthand, Fine Art / Visual Art, Book Keeping, CRS/IS, Cosmetology, Marketing, Pass in Physics, Electronics/Basic Electricity will be an advantage. And Relevant NTC/NBC & NVC Trades.

7. Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi

FEDPO-BAUCHI requires O’Level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, and any other three (3) subjects from History, Literature in English, Economics/Commerce, Fine Arts, Government, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Basic Electricity, Geography, Typewriting and Principles of Accounts.
