Streamlining and managing the affairs of all teachers across the country is one of the core functions of the board, and it’s just one of many tasks the board does so well. With the creation of the TSC Portal, members of this noble profession can do much from the comfort of their own homes.

The TSC portal enables teachers to perform the following tasks in relation to their work: accessing their payroll online, registering as a teacher with the commission, completing their asset declaration forms, completing their TPAD forms, and requesting duplicate registration certificates.

The Teachers Service Commission, whose core values are professionalism, customer focus, integrity, innovativeness, and team spirit, was established in the year 1967. Its establishment came as a result of the dire need for an umbrella body that would manage the affairs of all teachers in the country.

The history of its inception dates way back to the 1950s when teachers, led by the former president Daniel Arap Moi, fought for one teachers’ body. Then, in 1957, the first teacher’s union, the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) was formed.

In 1964, the Ominde Report supported the need for the Teachers Service Commission. By 1967, the Teachers Service Commission had thirty-seven thousand registered teachers, and in 2017, the number had risen to 758,914.
