About KwaZulu-Natal College of Nursing

The KZNCN is a public nursing college that offers programmes accredited by the South African Nursing Council and Council on Higher Education and administered under the Department of Health in KwaZulu-Natal. The KZNCN is a single nursing college instituted by eleven (11) Campuses and four (4) Sub-Campuses vastly located across the various districts within the Province.

KZNCN programmes address the needs of KZN province with a focus on the professional, legal, and ethical foundations of nursing. Students are guided by passionate academic staff to become competent nurse practitioners with a scientific background.

Our programs are comprised of theoretical and clinical components and students are placed in clinical facilities across KZN province for clinical learning experiences as directed by the South African Nursing Council (SANC). The KZNCN is affiliated with the University of KwaZulu-Natal and the University of Zululand.

Diploma in Nursing (R171)

• Diploma in Nursing is a full-time programme offered over a duration of three (3) years. It follows a block system for theory and work-integrated learning for the integration of theory and practice.

Basic Programmes

Diploma in Nursing (General, Psychiatric, and Community) and Midwifery (R425)

• The duration of the programme is 4 years. The Diploma in Nursing (General, Psychiatric, and Community) and Midwifery is a full-time structured programme offered over the duration of 4 years. It follows a block system for theory and work-integrated learning for the integration of theory and practice according to the prescripts of the South African Nursing Council.

Diploma in Clinical Nursing Science, Health Assessment, Treatment and Care (R48)

• The Diploma in Clinical Nursing Science, Health Assessment, Treatment, and Care is a full-time structured programme offered over a duration of 1 year to 18 months with decentralized clinical placement.
