About KURA

The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) is a statutory body established by the Kenya Roads Acts, 2007. The Act also established other Roads Authority (RAs) and provided for their powers and functions as stipulated within the Act.

In line with this, the Authority started its operations in the FY 2007/2008. It has a head office in Nairobi and ten (10) regional offices; Nairobi, Coast, Central, Lower Eastern, Upper Eastern, North Rift, North Eastern, Nyanza, South Rift, and Western.

KURA is responsible for the management, development, rehabilitation, and maintenance of all public roads in cities and municipalities except where these roads are categorized as national roads.
