Job Description for the Young Professional General Accountant

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Young Professional General Accountant during the 12 months training, will assist the Investments /General Accountant in the maintenance of  accurate accounts, as per approved policies and procedures.

The Young Professional will perform in particular the following functions and duties:

  1. Assist to develop, maintain and implement proper operational controls for financial efficiency;
  2. Co-ordinate payments to suppliers/creditors ensuring payments are made within the agreed date;
  3. Assist in preparing monthly financial performance and financial position reports, cash[1]flow projections, including periodic financial reports;
  4. Undertake the reconciliation of balance sheet accounts relating to business transactions on a monthly basis;
  5. Assist in preparing the annual Financial Statements in according to IFRS;
  6. Assist Underwriters in financial appraisals and financial risk analysis;
  7. Ensure complete operational compliance with financial manuals, Board and Management financial instructions and applicable Loan and Banking Agreements;
  8. Recording investment transactions in Syndil investment software;
  9. Preparing investment instructions for execution by fund managers;
  10. Recording claim provisions on a monthly basis;
  11. Processing claim payments;
  12. Assisting with investments and claims reconciliations;
  13. Any Adhoc tasks that may arise within the Finance unit.

Qualifications & Skills

  1. Be a citizen of a member country of ATI;
  2. Be 35 years of age or younger by December 2021;
  3. 2-3 years’ experience
  4. A Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA), Finance or Accounting Option
  5. Bachelor of Commerce degree in Accounting or Finance;
  6. Professional accounting qualifications e.g. CPA or ACCA;
  7. Data and analytic skills will be an added advantage;
  8. Knowledge of basic accounting procedures;
  9. Computer literacy and familiarity with standard office computer applications;

Job Description for the Young Professional Legal Officer

Reporting directly to the General Counsel and Corporate Secretary, the Young Professional Legal Officer, in liaison with the Legal Department during the 12 months training, will be responsible for providing a wide range of legal services to ATI including but not limited to the following duties:

  1. Assist in the negotiation, drafting, vetting and interpretation of legal documents, agreements, treaties and conventions including but not limited to: the ATI Treaty and Articles of
  2. Association, Participation Agreements with Member States, Operational manuals,
  3. Memoranda of understanding with partners, Insurance contracts, and Re-insurance agreements for and on behalf of ATI;
  4. Assist in providing legal and technical advice to the Underwriting Department in drafting and negotiating proposed insurance policy wordings, insurance offer letters, loan agreements/documentation and other associated documents;
  5. Assist the Underwriters in providing advice on legal implications of all insurance contracts and underlying commercial transactions;
  6. Assist current and prospective Member States in drafting, negotiating and concluding various agreements with ATI and donors including (but not limited to) the World Bank and the African Development Bank;
  7. Assist in liaising and coordinating with legal departments of member states, development financial institutions and other key partners;
  8. Assist in interpreting issues related to staff contracts, partnership agreements and all other contracts to which ATI is a party;
  9. Undertake research work in the area of law reform and development;
  10. Assist the Human Resources Department in managing legal aspects related to staff and employment issues;
  11. Assist in liaising and coordinating with ATI’s external legal advisors;
  12. Maintain current knowledge of relevant laws of ATI member countries;
  13. Assist in claims handling and determination; and
  14. Other duties that may be assigned from time to time.

Qualifications & Skills

  1. Be a citizen of a member country of ATI

  3. Master’s degree or equivalent in law that is relevant to the business of ATI, with outstanding academic credentials
  4. Bachelor’s degree in law that is relevant to the business of ATI, with outstanding academic credentials

  6. Have practical knowledge in insurance or banking or international public law
  7. Have at least a minimum of three (3) years of relevant full time professional experience in the areas that are relevant to the business of ATI

  9. Possess strong analytical skills and excellent interpersonal skills

Job Title: YPP – Portfolio Service Officer

Job Description for Young Professional Portfolio Services Officer

Reporting to the Chief Underwriting Officer, the Young Professional Portfolio Services Officer, will be under direct supervision of the Senior Portfolio Services Officer during the 12 months of training. He/ She will manage client relationships and contractual agreements.

The Young Professional will perform in particular the following functions and duties:

  1. Policy Execution and Management
  2. Prepare and execute policy documents, including reinsurance documents;
  3. Team up on the harder-to-close policies and provide input and explanations to parties (e.g. underwriters, prospect, bank, broker, reinsurance broker, etc) on the specific wording and calculation rules to be used in the NBI’s and Insurance Offer Letters;
  4. Issue Certificates of Effectiveness;
  5. Prepare Risk Country approvals;
  6. Manage the policy annuities;
  7. Turnover declarations follow up;
  8. Manage the day to day issues arising from policies;
  9. Provide product training and customer service to existing clients.
  10. Reinsurance Management and Reporting
  11. Prepare and execute reinsurance contracts and endorsements;
  12. Manage the annual renewal process of the Treaty reinsurance programs;
  13. Prepare underwriting memos for the treaty renewals;
  14. Track and manage reinsurance exposures and ATI’s net capacity;
  15. Prepare quarterly reinsurance reports for the treaty participants;
  16. Prepare for Finance Team the reinsurance breakdown reports for each invoice and credit note;
  17. Work with the reinsurance broker on reinsurance administration
  18. Operational Income Management
  19. Prepare and send out Invoices;
  20. Follow-up for premium and other obligations;
  21. Prepare Overdue and Termination Notices;
  22. Report on premium follow-up issues;
  23. Monitor and create follow-up reports for overdue and upcoming premium;
  24. Follow up with brokers and reinsurers for their invoices / preparation of payment advices;
  25. Report/advise on premium receipt allocations (e.g. broker commission and reinsurance payable);
  26. Review and clear broker and reinsurance invoices.
  27. Reporting and Data Management
  28. Keep records/track of due dates, payment dates, client issues, and other policy related obligations;
  29. Manage the Policy Database and generate reports as needed;
  30. Preparation of data and reports for team and management use;
  31. The team participates in the development, management, testing and feedback of the underwriting system.

Qualifications & Skills

Job Description for Young Professional Project Analyst

Reporting to the Chief Risk Officer (CRO) through the Business Portfolio Analyst, the Young Professional Project Analyst, during the 12 months of training, will support the Finance and the Underwriting departments. The Projects Analyst will help with the implementation of IFRS17, risk and business data management, portfolio stress testing and other relevant duties.

The Project Analyst core functions and duties are:

  1. Assist with the maintenance a reliable statistical data base of business and credit limits;
  2. Assist the CRO and CFO to develop a stress-testing model and conduct regular stress tests;
  3. Provide data, analysis and support to external consultants putting IFRS and ERM systems in place;
  4. Support preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual reports as requested by the Finance Department;
  5. Develop a thorough understanding of IFRS 17 requirements from both an actuarial and accounting perspective;
  6. Advise and provide the necessary support on the IFRS 17 implementation project and proactively participate in the implementation of an IFRS 17 tool;
  7. Coach other staff in the use and interpretation of standard actuarial procedures in the risk, underwriting, claims and finance departments;

Qualifications & Skills

  1. Be a citizen of a member country of ATI;
  2. Be 35 years of age or younger by December 2021;
  3. A Relevant Master’s Degree;
  4. Undergraduate degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics or Econometrics from recognized universities;
  5. 3-4 Years post graduate experience;
  6. A candidate currently completing certification as Actuary having completed at least 3 papers of the process will be at an advantage;
  7. At least 2 years of actuarial-type work such as supporting IFRS17, actuarial reserving, pricing, or financial modeling in the Financial sector, preferably related to Corporate or Commercial Insurance;
  8. Other combinations of education and experience demonstrating the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the work will also be considered;
  9. Ability to deliver timely, organized and consistent results;
  10. Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
  11. Written and oral English is pre-requisite;
  12. French language proficiency is an added advantage.
