The Gallagher Foundation provides full undergraduate scholarships for university scholars chosen in three developing countries: Mexico at ITESM – Monterrey Campus, South Africa at the University of Cape Town, and Turkey at Boğaziçi University.
The Gallagher Foundation Scholarship Covers:
- Tuition
- Books and supplies
- Spending money
- Room and board
- Meals
- Transportation
Candidates who receive the Gallagher Foundation Scholarship cannot receive additional scholarships. Scholars can receive Merit-based awards, but should not receive funding from other scholarships.
Gallagher Scholar Candidates Exhibit:
- Academic achievement reflecting unusual intelligence and ability.
- Evidence of leadership potential.
- A high level of ethical values with each Scholar firmly believing that progress can be achieved through peaceful means.
Gallagher Scholar Candidates are citizens of South Africa who reflect academic achievement and evidence of leadership potential. Race, gender, and religion are not considered as factors in scholarship selection. Nine Candidates will be selected to interview with Gallagher Foundation Representatives. Individuals selected as Candidates for the Gallagher Scholarship meet the following criteria:

A Gallagher Scholar Candidate shows evidence of a high level of ethical values, which include:
- Belief that progress can be achieved without violence
- Commitment to making a difference in their country
- Traits which align with the Gallagher Foundation Traits of Distinguished Leaders
Academic Requirements
Gallagher Scholar Candidates possess and show evidence of unusual intelligence and ability:
1. Major of Choice:
- Architecture
- Business
- Education
- Engineering
- History
- Law
- Language
- Math
- Philosophy
- Political Science
- Psychology
- Science
- Medicine
- Technology
2. Admitted to UCT on a conditional offer
3. Academic excellence was shown on the National Benchmark test in all competency areas
Leadership Requirements
Gallagher Scholar Candidates display evidence of leadership potential in their involvement in leadership activities including, but not limited to:
- Special projects
- Awards received
- Extracurricular activities
- Service work
Financial Requirements
Gallagher Scholar Candidates come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds displaying evidence of financial need.
Application Documentation Required
This application includes four short essay questions and requires the following document uploads:
- Letter of Recommendation
- High School Proof of Results
- A Photograph of You
- Proof of Income or Copies of Paychecks
- UCT Conditional Acceptance
- Proof of National Benchmark test scores.
