About Transport Education Training Authority (TETA)
The Transport Education Training Authority (TETA) is one of South Africa’s 21 Sector Education and Training Authorities (SETAs). Established under the Skills Development Act No. 97 of 1998, it was formally constituted in 2000 to consolidate prior training boards in the transport sector.
Operating under the oversight of the Department of Higher Education and Training and National Treasury, TETA is a public entity with a mandate to drive skills development and quality assurance across the transport sector.
TETA Bursary
Unemployed bursaries are offered to learners who have been accepted to study at accredited institutions of higher learning (post-school learning). These learners must not be employed full-time, and they must be enrolled for a career related to the transport sector, either on a full-time or part-time basis. Aviation Training and Diving Programmes are also included.
Applicants must satisfy the minimum entry criteria when applying for the bursary (failure to meet all the requirements leads to the disqualification of applications)
Minimum Entry Criteria:
- Be a South African citizen.
- Be between the ages of 18 and 35 years.
- Be currently unemployed.
- Be studying at a public tertiary institute (University/University of Technology/ TVET College/Accredited Flying School) in South Africa;
- Aim to study towards a NQF level 6 qualification (or above) within one of the above-mentioned fields of study
- Have passed with a minimum overall average of 50% in the previous years’ studies.
- Have a total household income of less than R350 000 per annum.

Instructions: Applicants must:
- Submit one application per qualification (should the applicant apply for two qualifications, the application will be disqualified).
- Submit clear copies of the supporting documents with the application (the submission of all the documents is compulsory – failure to comply will lead to an automatic disqualification).
- Certified ID copy is (certified stamp not older than 3months).
- Proof of registration or acceptance letter, or admission.
- Valid Accreditation for private institutions, which includes Aviation and Diving students.
- Latest Academic record (with the institution stamp)
- Certified Matric Results (for first-year students) or certificate
- Valid Private Pilot License (PPL) when applying for CPL (with issue and expiry date clearly visible)
- Valid CPL for Instructor/Instrument Rating (with issue and expiry dates clearly visible)
- Valid CPL for Instructor/Instrument Rating endorsement for ATPL Hour Building/CPL with ATPL Subjects (with issue and expiry dates clearly visible)
- Medical Examination Results for Diving programmes (Class IV, III, II)
- Parents/Guardians ID documents (certified copies)
- Parents/Guardians proof of income (recent payslip, etc)
